Weapons Cleaning
with Mr. Joseph Lai
On Thursday, February 18, 2016, we will be holding a Weapon Cleaning Workshop in place of regular class from 6:30-8pm. The workshop will take place in the basement of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (not the gym of the school) at 2465 Crown Street. I will have a sign on the main lawn adjacent to Crown Street to direct everyone to the basement entrance. Please DO NOT use any other entrances into the church. The cost of the workshop is $15 per person and students of Group 1, 2 & 3 are encouraged to attend. We will be presenting a number of different ways of how to clean foils including using baking soda, solvents, abrasives & power tools. For those who would like to modify the points of their weapons from rubber to leather points, we will be demonstrating how to do that as well. Depending on time we may also briefly present methods on how to better balance foils to handle like antique weapons and how to properly cant Sabre blades. Lastly, there will also be a discussion on the proper methods of wearing, cleaning & maintaining one's uniform. Parents of fencers under the age of 14 are also welcome to attend and take part in order to assist their children in cleaning at home in the future. Please send me an email to reserve a spot for the workshop. All profits will go towards organizing the 2016 Concours Internationaux d'Escrime de la Jeunesse in March. |
